Our emotional experience is constantly in motion— our feelings shift and change throughout the day. Sometimes these changes are so subtle we hardly notice them, while other times they arrive like a powerful wave, bringing with them discomfort or overwhelm. It's natural to want to escape that tension or react impulsively in the heat of the moment. While that may bring temporary relief, it isn’t always the most effective response—and developing the ability to manage our emotions is truly invaluable
In a Psychologist Brief article, I had the opportunity to share some go-to strategies for emotion regulation, including a foundational approach that I find extremely useful.
